"I was surprised to discover that this music was written by the same 19th century composer who wrote the ballet Giselle, and bemused to read that in Adam's time the song was denounced by church authorities as 'lacking music taste' and 'devoid of the spirit religion'. I personally find it one of the loveliest and most spiritual pieces in the repertoire."
